race quiz?

In my Issues in America class we took an online quiz that shows any unconscious biased towards other races. I consider myself to be open to all races. I do know that I prefer my own race over other races but I don’t dislike any other races. The results of my quiz were that I prefer white people over blacks. I’m not surprised at all by my results because I know that I feel more comfortable with my race. My bias comes from what I see on the media. I did grow up until high school in an extremely Black and Mexican dominate community where I was the minority, so I did get to meet and learn more about other cultures. I would say that I know enough about that race to back up a little of why I prefer whites over blacks. I got to experience both sides. I grew up in a diverse community and then went to high school in a completely white dominate community and in this white community many of my peers have never really socialized or got to know anyone who isn’t white and I would say all of their judgments are based off of lack of knowledge about another culture. Where I grew up there was a lot of big fights at school with girls and boys, people stole more, there were more threats and more of a struggle to fit in and be accepted. Where I live now it is completely opposite and I feel more at peace and safer where I live. I of Corse do not have any races but I know that I do prefer my own race over others.

Congress Theater Rape

In the novel I’m reading called “Murder in the Name of Honor” by hussieni, the author discusses her contributes to women’s rights and the safety of women everywhere. Hussieni tells the stories of women everywhere who are beaten, raped and or murdered by not just strangers, but by loved ones. The lack of respect and empathy for women by men is a disgrace to our time. We haven’t come along as far as we mostly say. Women are still paid less, and still are affected by unfair stereotypes. Its true women are for the most part weaker than men, but we are not less intelligent, or less mentally strong. Girls need to get the credit and respect they deserve. A young 18 teen year old girl who lives in the suburbs of Highland park was found unconscious, bleeding, naked and raped outside a taco restaurant near a concert at congress theater after being denied entrence for not having her ID. She was allegedly raped and beaten by 6 young men. Sources say that a couple people claimed to of seen it happen and claim they tried to scare the boys off but nothing worked. I’m disgusted that people could watch what was happening to this girl and not one of them stepped in or called the police. What did they think would be the end result of this? Did they think she would just walk away and be fine? Did they think that the boys were just trying to have a little fun? Boys will be boys? What is wrong with people!?! I think that the people who claim to have witnessed what was happening to this poor girl should also be arrested for failing to report a crime, or for not stopping it. For letting all that had happened to that girl happen, those people should also be prosecuted for being accomplices! Anyone could have stopped it, anyone could have called the police but no one did. This isn’t right. Violent acts should never be ok but a violent act upon women, who is almost defenseless against a bigger male, is sick. The fact that this poor girl didn’t even have a chance of defending herself because she was up against SIX young men is horrible and gruesome. Her life could have been taken. Yes she’s still alive but she in a coma. When and if she even wakes up her life is changed forever. She may never mentally recover from this. This girl is going to need so much care and help after what had happened to her, this changed her whole life. In the short time it took beat and rape this girl, these boys left her damaged for years to come. What happened to her was inhuman and this should never happen to a single person ever again. The likelihood of this never happening is in the negatives, but people can start spreading more awareness about safety, women’s rights, just rights as a human. What happened to this girl doesn’t have to be in vain. People can look at what happened to this girl and help protect their child from being abused or being an abuser. If that girl had called her parents or waited inside the restaurant or closer to the theater security guards there’s a huge chance this wouldn’t have happened. This is in no way her fault but maybe it could have been prevented. Let’s spread the awareness and help keep people safe so something like this never happens to us, or our loved ones.
